The Border Police did not like the post published Tuesday night by Avraham Yitzhak Grossman, describing a violent attack he said his 15-year-old sister had experienced by a border police officer while she was touring the Old City.
The Border Police’s response hinted that Grossman was exposed to a defamation suit and legal action on the grounds that he had “shamed” a policeperson and may be imprisoned for up to six months for violating the prohibition against revealing the identity of a border police person suspected of committing a crime during operational activity.
However, attorney Itamar Ben-Givir, who represents the complainant, is not bothered by the threats and is inviting the Border Police to sue his client.
“I understand that the Border Police spokesmen are adding insult to injury and after the Border Police policewoman severely damaged my client, and now, the stage of the threats is not to publish it, that is, to assault and no one knows,” Ben-Givir said in response to the Kol HaYehudi.
“Border Police spokesmen must understand that we are not in Russia, neither in Syria nor in Iran. It is permissible to criticize the policewoman and not every publication, which in this case is both true and factual, should not be met with threats from the spokespersons against the persons who publicized the facts”.
By the way, we are in favor of the spokesmen lifting the gauntlet. We’ll see them suing for slander and we’ll put both the policewoman and the speaker on the stand, “Ben-Givir added. “It will be interesting.”
“This is hypocrisy of the so-called” law enforcers, “who threaten to mute demands and give back to unbridled policemen who beat helpless minors instead of dismissing them from the Israel Police Force, as was expected in such a case,” said Raphael Morris, chairman of the “Return to the Mountain” movement.
