Degel Hatorah chairman, MK Moshe Gafne, on Tuesday, 10 Elul, is expected to meet with the head of the Telshe Stone (Kiryat Yearim) Local Council, Avraham Rosenthal to discuss the possibility that he steps down to clear the way for another person. Degel Hatorah has been in a quandary in most cities and local councils ahead of municipal elections, and the same holds true for Telshe Stone, where Gafne is uncertain regarding Rosenthal’s future.
In many cases, if not most, Degel is involved in talks towards strengthening its power base amid threats to run its own candidate if agreement is not reached. This method to date has yielded minimum success in the upcoming elections.
Kikar Shabbos News reports the mora d’asra of the city, along with many other rabbonim appear to back the possibility of a new candidate in Telshe Stone.
A name being considered in Deputy Betar Illit Mayor Yitzchak Ravitz, who lost his first place standing in recent party primaries in Betar to Dudi Zlatz. Other candidates are also being considered, and MK Uri Maklev is expected to meet with the rav of the city to discuss the matter.
