Health Officials Visit The Golan Heights Following The Outbreak Of Leptospirosis


Following the outbreak of leptospirosis in northern Israel last week, which led to the hospitalization of over 40 persons, representatives of the Israel Nature & National Parks Protection Authority, the Ministry of Health and the Minister of Agriculture participated in a joint work tour of the southern Golan Heights on Tuesday morning, 10 Elul.

The Nature and Parks Authority, headed by Shaul Goldstein, the director of the Israel Nature & National Parks Protection Authority, conducted a joint tour with the Ministry of Health, led by Prof. Itamar Grotto, who serves as deputy director-general of the Ministry of Health in the southern Golan Heights in order to closely examine the environmental effects of the flow of water to their streams and to examine solutions to reduce pollution in some of the streams in the southern Golan Heights.

Minister of Agriculture Uri Ariel took part in a portion of the tour, and they took advantage of the opportunity to discuss details and solutions while swimming together in the clean water of the El Alamein ‘Officers Pool’ south of the High Customs House. The three called on travelers to continue hiking in the Golan Heights and the rivers and springs permitted for swimming, in accordance with the instructions of the Ministry of Health and the Israel Nature & National Parks Protection Authority.
