The International Criminal Court in The Hague has made it clear that it is not committed to the anti-Israel and precedent-setting decision handed down last month by the justices who discussed the situation in “Palestine”.
Last week, it was reported that Israel sent a severe protest to the court following the decision, which the judges initiated without the request of the prosecution, “to establish a mechanism for the victims and for the communities affected by the situation in Palestine”.
A spokesman for the court in The Hague confirmed that “representatives of the Presidium of the Court and the Registrar recently received representatives of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the matter, and the Israeli representatives presented their views on the ‘decision to inform and contact the victims of the situation in Palestine.'” he said.
Israel’s position is that the tribunal does not have the authority to investigate what is happening in Israel, since, like the United States and other countries around the world, Israel is not a member of it and does not participate in the legal proceedings relating thereto.
