Gush Katif Tombstones Remain Strewn in Kibbutz Fields

gush.jpgSome two-and-a-half years after close to 10,000 Jews were forcibly evicted from their homes and their communities destroyed, many promises made by the government of Ariel Sharon have yet to be fulfilled.

At the time, the residents of the area communities were assured that the government would remain committed to assisting them to rebuild their lives, laying the groundwork for the destruction of the homes, communities, schools, synagogues, yeshivos, mikvos (ritual baths) and the area cemetery.

For one thing, while the bodies exhumed from the Gush Katif community cemetery were re-interred, the Kevarim remain thrown on the side, in a field in Kibbutz Masu’ot Yitzchak.

One of the people involved in persuading the residents to agree to permitting authorities to exhume the remains of their loved ones was then IDF Chief Chaplain Brigadier-General Rabbi Yisrael Weiss. Weiss assured residents that the government promises to relocate the graves, and once again affix the tombstones to their proper place towards providing a reburial with dignity for their dearly departed.

It was not too long after the expulsion of the Gush Katif community that Rabbi Weiss publicly apologized for his actions, expressing profound remorse for advocating on behalf of Sharon’s expulsion plan, a plan which he and many others now realize did not accomplish its goal of bringing peace to southern Israel – but has created a situation in which the lives of the former Gush Katif families have been disrupted, some beyond the point of rehabilitation.

  1. Rabbi Weiss, together with all the others who supported killing 10,000 Jews for political gain, and now talking about teshuva – is hypocritical!
In order to do teshuva, they MUST correct the tragedy they caused, in all ways possible, and they are thinking nothing of doing it – only doing more!
All because of their ego. However, when they plan to take their own lives, as arik has done, they should be careful not to fall from their ego to their IQ. They certainly will get hurt!
B”H the Chareidi olam as a whole, did NOT support this fiasco. But, are helping these Jews get back on their feet!
    Boruch Hashem for Frumer Yiden!
