On Tuesday, 3 Elul, the Elad Municipality placed three caravans into place in the Archeological Park (14 Radak Street) to be used for the agricultural farm program affiliated with the Ministry of Education. Opponents to the plan insist Elad is the only chareidi city to join the program, which it did to receive the budgets associated with the program.
The program was approved by Mayor Yisrael Porush, who selected Moshe Stein of Degel Hatorah to run it. Residents opposing the program interfered and prevented the placement of a fourth caravan classroom. The opponents, with ties to the Kol Milchama campaign and Peleg Yerushalmi faction, explain Stein was chosen in the hope Degel will back down and back Porush’s bid for a second term.
The tractor trailer carrying the fourth caravan remained on site, apparently to unload the caravan on Wednesday. The opponents vow to continue protesting and insist they will do their utmost to prevent the city from actualizing the new program, blaming Porush of a willingness to “corrupt the minds of the young children in the name of earning additional funding” and cooperating with state officials.
