Code Red Buzzers to be Distributed to Deaf Residents of Ashkelon

kassam43.jpgOver a hundred buzzers have recently been distributed to deaf and hearing impaired Ashkelon residents, who currently live under threat of Grad missiles.  When rockets are fired on the city, the buzzers will activate in coordination with the Code Red siren, warning of the impending danger, and providing enough time to run to a secured area or shelter.

“This buzzer only operates in areas under direct threat of falling rockets,” noted the Homefront Command’s Communication Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Uri Peretz. “If a civilian bearing this buzzer leaves the determined area the buzzer won’t operate.”

The distribution of 160 beepers is only part of the larger instructional campaign by the Homefront Command’s Population Dept. and the Israeli Deaf Society for the hearing impaired residents of Ashkelon.

The distribution of buzzers in Ashkelon was instigated after the successful distribution to the hearing impaired residents of Sderot and of the north during the Second Lebanon War.  The Homefront Command is staunchly working to implement all methods of civilian protection in Sderot, Ashkelon and the communities surrounding the Gaza Strip from rocket and missile threats.
