Knesset Coalition Chairman David Amsellem announced that he is endorsing Ze’ev Elkin in the Jerusalem mayoral race.
Speaking with Galei Tzahal (Army Radio), Amsellem stated, “We, the Likud people and I myself back the candidate of the party in the Jerusalem mayoral race, Minister Ze’ev Elkin. The moment Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said he backs him, I back him”.
Elkin thanked Amsellem for his statement of support. His backing adds additional strength to his campaign, now supported by the Histadrut National Labor Federation as well. However, polls show the leader in the race at present is Ofir Berkowitz of the Hisorarus party. In fact, Berkowitz is leading with 26.9% of the vote, followed by chareidi candidate Yossi Deutsch, with 25.4%. Elkin is in third place with 25.1% of the vote, so it is a close race indeed.
