At the beginning of last week, while the gabbai slept in the apartment, an anonymous person entered the apartment and stole valuable items, among them Judaica of great sentimental value to the Seret-Vishnitz Rebbe Shlita and his chassidim.
Only in the morning did the gabbai discover the theft and he filed a complaint with Tzefas police. The Israel Police opened an investigation to locate the stolen property which is very valuable to the rebbe, as well as placing the thief in custody.
According to BeChadrei Chareidim report on motzei Shabbos, after police gathered intelligence information, the suspect, who had already passed the passport control at Ben-Gurion Airport and reached the gate of the plane, was detained by the police.
The flight the suspect boarded was delayed for about two hours in compliance with a police request, as police searched for his luggage, which they suspected contained stolen goods. They were correct regarding the suitcase. The suspect was questioned about the break-in and released with restrictions.

“Anonymous person entered the house?”
How pathetic!
Sounds like an “inside job”. Is the suspect one of the Rebbe’s chassidim? Otherwise, how did he know these items were in a “vacation apartment”? One doesn’t ordinarily keep items of great value at some temporary apartment or condo without good security. Also, presumably the gabbai was sleeping at the Rav’s condo to protect it when he wasn’t there. How does a thief come in, disable the security system and rob the Rebbe’s items with the gabbai waking up and restraining the ganof until police arrive.
of course robbers target homes of wealthy people. what did they expect?
Do Rebbes take all their expensive silver accessories, gold tipped walking sticks and fur trimmed coats when they go on vacation? Who am I to tell a Rebbe what to do, but IMHO, based on years of vacationing – travel light! Don’t take anything valuable that might get lost or stolen, and bring plenty of suntan lotion if you’re going to be outdoors a lot.
Oh, and if you’re planning on traveling with a Gabbi, bring an extra one so that one is always awake.
