WATCH: Israel Constructing Underwater Barrier to Prevent Attacks From Gaza Terrorists

Israel’s defense minister has published a video of a sea obstacle Israel is building to prevent attacks from Gaza, the territory ruled by the Hamas terror group. Work on the new maritime barrier on the Zikim beach began two months ago.

Avigdor Lieberman’s Twitter post came Sunday as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly convened his Security Cabinet to discuss an Egyptian brokered cease-fire between Israel and Hamas.

He writes: “We are continuing intensive work to build land and sea obstacles around Gaza. Hamas is losing its capability to attack Israel every day.”

As part of negotiations, several exiled Hamas leaders are in Gaza for consultations.

Israel and Hamas came close to serious conflict recently when months of border violence escalated.

Hamas has led weekly border protests partially aimed at drawing attention to the Israeli-Egyptian blockade imposed after Hamas took control of Gaza in 2007.

Data on the barrier along the Gaza border: The length of the barrier is 200 meters, the width is 50 meters, and the fence is 6 meters high. This structure will require additional measures that will provide full coverage of the entire sea against infiltrations.

Brigadier-General Eran Ophir, Head of Borders & Seamline said: “We are working with all our might to complete the work on the maritime barrier that is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The barrier, an impermeable type of pier, will consist of three layers, including a layer below sea level, an additional layer of armor stone and a third layer of “curl” fence. In addition to the three layers, another fence (“the hourglass”) will surround the compound that will provide a response to the security threat.”
