Former Labor Party Leader & Haifa Mayor Mitzne Decries the Current State of Affairs

Using Facebook to get his message out to the public, Amram Mitzne decries the current state of affairs in Israel, questioning “what happened to my beloved state”.

Mitzne, who is a retired IDF Major-General, a former head of the Labor Party and a former Haifa mayor, posted the following on Facebook.

“You open the newspaper in the morning and do not know where to bury yourself, crying inwardly about your dear and beloved country. The Nationality Law does nothing but poke the eye of every fifth citizen in the country – the Druse brothers feel second class citizens and are excluded from the “Jewish state.”

Mitzne also referred to the events within the party in which he wrote: “My party chairman, I have no regrets over the resignation of MK Zuhair Bahloul. Minister Miri Regev is educating the Yemenite Heritage Center in the heart of a Palestinian neighborhood in Jerusalem surrounded by bodyguards and border police, – The Gay Pride Parade (Toeiva) in Jerusalem will be secured by thousands of police officers – the residents of Khan al-Ahmar will be evacuated. The question that remains open is only where the evacuees will be evacuated – the defense minister and the chairman of Machane Tzioni are competing for the more offensive tweet.

“And me, who am I?” wrote Mitzne. “A Zionist Israeli citizen who has spent more than 50 years in the army, in uniform and without them, is now labeled a leftist, a traitor, a troublemaker of Israel.”

At this point, Mitzne turned to right-wing voters and wrote: “And I ask you, the citizens of Israel, your right-wing worldview. When will you be sober and realize that for a long time the argument has not been about left or right. The image and future of the State of Israel are the ones that are being tested here”.

Mitzne did not have any words of advice for citizens with a left-wing hashkafa.

  1. Councilman Aryeh King Says Multi-Colored Toeiva Flag is a “Black Flag Waving Over Yerushalayim”
    August 2, 2018
In light of the Toeiva Flag Parade on Thursday, Jerusalem Councilman (Meuchadim/United Party) Aryeh King stated, “Their flags waving over Yerushalayim are black flags waving over the heads of the city councilpersons, with the religious and chareidi councilpersons being first and foremost”.

King added that “if the religious representatives of the municipality had backed the proposal submitted by me 11 months ago that forbade the hanging of flags that are not flags of the state or the flags of the municipality and its corporations or flags of an official event of the Jerusalem municipality or the State of Israel, the toeiva flag would not be flying today. Chareidi and religious council members, for their own reasons, opposed the proposal designed to prevent the disgrace of hundreds of black flags throughout Jerusalem. There are no flags of private organizations that hang in the streets of the holy city, except for this flag, whose hanging is contrary to the values of the Torah.”

King adds, “In two weeks, on 3 Elul, tens of thousands of talmidim and followers of Rav Kook will visit the tziyun on Har HaZeisim. It will present a wonderful opportunity to do a cheshbon nefesh (self-introspection) while at the kever – for the elected officials and activists of the one and only dati leumi party in Knesset, to rethink it path and do a cheshbon nefesh”.
