The Gaza Strip ceasefire that was enacted over the weekend was torn asunder today, as a Hamas snipers shot at IDF soldiers along the border fence moderately injuring one officer. The soldier was flown by military helicopter to Soroka hospital where he was treated for his injuries. The IDF responded by firing on seven Hamas outposts. According to reports from news sources inside the Gaza Strip both the IAF and tanks opened fire on the outposts resulting in numerous casualties and three fatalities.
The incident occurred in the north of the Strip near the border town of Kisufim. This is the same area that First Sergeant Aviv Levy was shot and killed by a Hamas sniper last Friday. Following that incident, the IDF destroyed 60 targets inside the Gaza Strip all of which were locations from which Hamas was fomenting terror activities against Israel.
According to Army Radio, Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman has called for an emergency meeting of senior IDF generals in the Tel Aviv headquarters of the Defense Ministry.
A Palestinian sniper in Gaza fired at IDF troops under the cover of 20 children that were sent towards the border fence as decoy. This is the second sniper attack against the IDF in a week. IDF retaliated against Hamas positions.
