A Ramat Shlomo couple are facing charges of abusing their ten children for many years. The parents are suspected of injected six of their children with insulin to mimic signs of diabetes, in the hope of receiving monetary assistance from Bituach Leumi (National Insurance Institute). Charges against them may include endangering minors, aggravated assault and fraud for embezzling Bituach Leumi.
The youngest victim, 18-months-old, has sustained irreversible brain damage as a result of the insulin injections. The father is quoted saying, “One hospital says they have diabetes and the other says no. This is simply a blood libel”.
The father spoke with KAN News and insists that these are baseless accusations against him, admitting he cannot explain who is responsible and why, adding that at present, “Baruch Hashem the children are okay”, but then admitting he does not really know what their health situation is today.
Police suspect the mother may have hidden the true nature of her actions from her husband, the children’s father.
“I’ve been in the police force for 30 years. I have seen many difficult, serious things. This is one of the most shocking and difficult cases that I have seen,” said Doron Ben Amo, the lead investigation officer.
The probe began a month ago when the mother arrived with the 18-month-old in Shaare Zedek Hospital. He was in serious condition with seizures and underwent brain surgery. However, his condition continually worsened and they struggled to stabilize him.
Staff noticed that his condition worsened whenever his mother was with him, and his blood sugar levels plummeted. However, when she was not present his sugar levels returned to normal. One of the nurses reported that she had seen a syringe in the mother’s bag.
Five of the children, excluding the toddler, had been diagnosed with diabetes, netting the parents between 12,000-15,000 shekels monthly from Bituach Leumi! They have already cheated Bituach Leumi out of between 800,000 and a million shekels.
The medical team in Shaare Zedek sought expert medical advice from a doctor who found that none of the ten children actually had diabetes. On the other hand, the parents were working to bring a contradicting medical opinion.
Police interviewed the children, who said that their mother taught them how to check their blood sugar levels several times a day and how to inject each other with insulin. A police spokesman said that the mother taught her children how to live as diabetics, even though they were healthy.
A grandmother of the children told KAN News that the court understands everything was fine and the children were prescribed the medication and there was no cause for concern.
She insists the charges are all lies, adding “This mother (her daughter) has taken care of her children their entire lives. They are dressed in name brand clothing and their food is like none other. I am not angry at her for there is nothing to be angry about.”
Neighbors, whose identities were not disclosed, tell KAN that the mother does not have an easy time with her children and she has psychiatric issues. “At times she may just begin laughing or crying” one adds.
The report adds police found sticks in the home that the parents used to beat the children, primarily the mother. They have required medical attention as a result of the beatings inflicted on them by their mother. The children were brought to kupat cholim as mom sought treatment for their injuries. Social services is working with police as the case unfolds.
Police report the sticks used in the beatings were significant in size. In addition, the police announced mom was being sent for psychiatric observation. This is after consultation with the State Attorney’s Office. A court on Tuesday, 12 Menachem Av, extended the mother’s detention for six days as the investigation continues.
The mother’s lawyer objected during the hearing, opposed to the forced psychiatric observation while in custody. Her attorney also claimed that the children of the family were not transferred to foster care as claimed, but were treated mainly by other members of their family who were enlisted to take care of them.
The father of the family was released to house arrest last week and was even allowed to see his children under supervision. Police view dad with serious suspicions, but less than the charges attributed to his wife.

This is pure evil, how is it possible for a “Chareidi” Jew to commit such a heinous crime?!?
Just watch in a day or 2 you will see ads on line raising money for a family in need major funds to fight a blood libel.
Giving insulin to a non-diabetic does not “mimic signs of diabetes”. It will lower the blood sugar, which is the exact opposite.
Of course this is pure evil!! What is more ridiculous, is this constant use of a made up Label of Chareidi!!! It is a total Chillul Hashem to use Labels to describe anyone!! Moshe1994 asks, how is it possible???? You are RIGHT!!! If the people were REALLY Chared Hashem, they would not do what they did!!! Just like 2 Chareidim were caught smuggling drugs!!! OH!!! How can a Charedi do that!!! BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT CHAREDIM!!!! They are people!!! WE all stood at the foot of Sinai, and we as Jews know what we have to do and strive for, to be a true Eved Hashem. SO STOP WITH THE NAME CALLING!!!!
Signed,
A Jew!
why is are they chareidy???? they are irreligious. being chareidy means you are religious, which means you abide by what the torah says, doesn’t make a difference if you are wearing a black hat or a cap, or if your wearing a frock or a leather jacket.
I want to vomit and cry at the same time… how can anyone do this to their own child?
“Grandma insists it is all lies, adding “This girl (Her daughter) takes care of the children her entire life. They are dressed in name brand clothing and their food is like none other. I am not angry at her for there is nothing to be angry about.””
lol good proof grandma I would hope after all the money they took they at least fed and dressed their kids properly
They are charedi for the good, bad and ugly just like a goy who is Catholic for the good bad and ugly. Just like a rosh yeshiva is still rosh yeshiva for the good bad and ugly.
@YWN, storys of Jews that cause anger is great click-bate and brings in alot of alot of ad revenue which brings in money.
How is this not blood money, why do we need to know this story? Why do we need to see protests of Neturei Katra? Why do we need to see what Yosef Mizrachi said about the holocaust? Why do we need to see the chareidi protests in Israel?
How do all of these plus hundreds more affect our daily lives. Yes people are doing very very stupid stuff and yes they are 1000% wrong, but what good does you promoting such stories do for the klal?
For you it brings in revenue and you would argue, “if you dont want to see it then dont click on it” but your website name is very misleading and regardless, you have as a big news platform a responsibility to the Jewish community to keep things in accordance with halacha.
Please stop sinking to such levels just to earn a quick buck!
I am shocked how people can miss such an important factor.
It is clearly written, “Neighbors……..tell KAN that mom has psychiatric issues. “At times she may just begin laughing or crying” one adds.
So
1) one cannot compare this to “smugling drugs” etc
2)its has nothing to do if family is CHARADY OR not and IF IT IS A PSYCHIATRIC ISSUE why is it even mentioned that family is charedi
3) why post this article at all? It a typical lushon hura not on an individual (since no name was mentioned) Indeed, a Lushon hura on all charedim since when a person reads only the title or if someone reads it and isn’t familiar with the “psychological issues” can have a bad view on them
4) if you want people to take a lesson you can post the entire article without mentioning charadim
5) why did u stop at “charedim” are they chasidim? Litvish? Yeshivish ? Mosern orthodox? So of course you do understand that it wouldnt be fair to do so. So i am demending to
a)immediately change the title
b) to think 5 seconds before you post an article “will this bring us closer to the geulah or move us away” and only then post it
6) we all understand the responsibility upon leaders to do the right thing for their community since it can have public consequences YWN is not different than that, upu have thousands of people reading it and you have the power to make an impact so Try to so the right thing and be more positive and when in doubt ask dass torah before posting
Thank you and i wish you lots of success
The facts as reported in this case are a remarkable muddle, and my comments that follow have little or nothing to do with the family covered by this report.
My comment, instead, is with the tautological, unsound reasoning of Mosh94 and daaaaaaasssss Torah that the people in the story cannot possibly be Chareidim because they behave badly. In a narrow sense that is true, but it would be better to say that these people are misguided Chareidim: they are probably Shomer Shabbos, dad probably davens and dons tefillin when Chareidim do, they have been fruitful and multiplied, probably send their kids to frum yeshivas, probably are strict observers of Kashrus, probably observe tznius dress code. If that is the case, it is reasonable to call them Chareidim. Bad Chareidim, but nevertheless Chareidim. And the rest of the Chareidim, and all other Jews, should show them some chesed by giving them some help.
I hate to say it, shidduch crises & all, TuBi’av and all. Not everyone is marriage material. Not everyone is Parent material. As painful as it is, don’t force the issue. Be careful what you daven for. This is but one glaring example.
@huju I’m very aware that Chareidim can do bad things; I was asking a rhetorical question.
“…that the court understand everything was fine… they was no cause for concern… Grandma insists it is all lies, adding “This girl (Her daughter) takes care of the children her entire life….”
Was this written by a fourth grader and then not checked by a proofreader?
don’t make it like this is a horror story YWN far removed from you , your the enabler here by allowing all of these people to fundraise using your website, don’t try to put a distance between yourself and them you spend your whole life doing that because physchologically your self conscious that you were also raised charade and you don’t want to be perceived as an outcast in the world in general so you also out at everyone else that their radical b ut really your really radical
WHO OWN YWN ??????????
people who accumulate crushing debt, not a rarity in chareidi society do various things as a result. until the problem of lifestyle is addressed, mah yaaseh haben shelo yechteh.
Speak, of course without any names and off the record, to any experienced local government social worker in the Meah Shearim area and you will hear story upon story to make your hair stand on end. The percentage of parents with severe psychiatric issues is higher than in many other places. This mother, and possibly the father as well, is unfit to take care of her children. She may even need hospitalization in a psychiatric unit herself. This story may be worse than most but it is not unique at all. Unfortunately, and this is a generalization which I know will be reviled, many of the Yerushalmi haredim have no idea how to run their own or their children’s lives or have any social skills at all. They see nothing wrong with living in filth, throwing dirty diapers out onto the sidewalk, bathing once a week, etc. etc. Not that they think these are good things, but they simply do not see anything wrong with behaving like this.
The mother clearly is mentally sick. Why is this news?
YWN sure didn’t post an article when a woman on my block with mental issues hung herself in front of her four children, or when girls in my class were beaten and locked out of their homes when their parents had mental issues.
