CEO Of Israel’s Largest Healthcare Provider Steps Down, Claiming They Cannot Provide Service To The Public

Clalit Health Services CEO Noaz Bar Nir announced on Tuesday, 5 Menachem Av, that he is stepping down after only one year. In a strong letter sent to the fund’s management, Bar Nir explained that the fund’s budgetary situation does not allow the insured to receive what they deserve and complained about “Abrasive regulation and erosion of sources.”

Bar-Nir announced that he was not waiting for the appointment of his replacement, and that he would leave next week for a planned vacation in India for a few weeks, and it would appear that he would will leave his post prior to the appointment of a replacement. In the meantime, the largest fund in Israel will be managed by Chairman Admoni and a small team of deputy CEOs.

This is a particularly significant role in the health system. Clalit is the second largest health organization in the world with a budget of NIS 25 billion a year. The HMO insures some 4.5 million Israelis and employs some 40,000 people. But despite the size of Clalit, there are many arguments about its conduct.

According to reports, Bar Nir, who was appointed to the position a year ago, has had significant tensions with the workers’ committee. The committee objected to his appointment, as the union felt the appointment should come from someone from within the HMO. Some opine this may have influenced the outgoing CEO’s decision to leave at this time.
