At approximately 12:33AM, an alarm sounded in the communities of the Golan Heights, which naturally aroused tension on the northern border, but after a few minutes it turned out that this was a false alarm.
Last week there were two cases of Patriot missile fire on unmanned aircraft from Syria. On Friday, many residents of Tzefas reported a trail seen in the sky, estimating that it was a missile launch, and a short time later the launch was reported against an aerial target.
According to the IDF, “a Patriot missile was fired from the air defense system towards an unmanned Syrian aircraft operating in the buffer zone.”
The first case, last Wednesday, when a Patriot missile was launched at an unmanned aircraft that crossed the border from Syria and entered Israel. The vessel was intercepted above the Sea of Galilee and following the interception, an alarm was sounded in the communities in the southern Golan Heights and in the Jordan Valley.
On Wednesday, the IDF waited 15 minutes until the UAV was intercepted, in order to check whether it was a Russian aircraft. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was in Moscow at the time with Russian President Vladimir Putin. It later became clear that the aircraft was being launched for intelligence purposes and was not armed.
About three weeks ago, a Patriot missile was also launched at a target in the northern Golan Heights, after unmanned aircraft advanced from Syria to Israel. The missile missed the target and the UAV moved away from the border with Israel.
