Dozens of Syrians approached the Syrian-Israeli border at Kunetra on Tuesday afternoon, 5 Menachem Av. Some of them were waving white-colored clothing.
IDF soldiers stationed at the border shouted at the civilians to stop, and they did, approximately 200 meters from the border, according to a Reuters report.
According to the Syrian Center for Monitoring Human Rights, President Assad’s army managed to take control of 90 percent of the territory of the Daraa region near the border, and during the battles, took control of strategic Tel-Alahara because it overlooks the Israeli side of the Golan Heights.
In the past, there has been a radar base for anti-aircraft weapons controlled by the rebels since 2014. In the past two days, the site has been heavily bombarded by various Assad army forces, which have continued to approach the border with Israel since last month’s campaign to conquer Daraa.
“We are desperate for help and are in real danger of life,” said a Syrian refugee who in Kunetra, where the Assad army is located six kilometers from the area. “If you let us in, we will never forget it. We hope you can, and we will continue from there to European countries,” the refugee is quoted saying.
