According to Israel’s Ministry of the Interior, at the current growth rate Jerusalem’s population will pass the one million mark in about two years. A worrisome statistic states that 40% of the residents of the capital are not Jews. According to Councilman Dr. Meir Margalit in a Maariv interview, “We will soon see a Palestinian mayor.”
According to 2012 numbers, Jerusalem is home to 952,330 residents, an increase of 19,217 residents from 2011. The non-Jewish population increased by 1.5% as opposed to the previous year.
The ministry examines the number of residents under 18 in the different population groups towards predicting the trend in the coming years. At present there are 9,407 18-year-old Jews as compared to 9,162 18-year-old non-Jews in the capital.
If one looks as birthrates however, the difference between Jews and non-Jews is significant. Of the 23,392 infants born in Yerushalayim in 2012, 15,372 are Jewish and 8,020 non-Jews. Jerusalem City Hall reports the high Jewish birthrate is primarily due to the chareidi community as the non-frum community continues to shrink and losing a foothold demographically speaking. In the coming years, Jerusalem will be divided between the chareidim and the Arabs.

Time to take out the “palestinian” garbage.
No. 1: I want Jerusalem to be a Jewish city and the capital of the Jewish state, but you sound as if you are proposing “Yishmaelrien” as the way to bring that about.

I’d extend your comment to remove the so called “garbage” from BOTH the Palestinian and JEWISH population so that the 97 percent of peaceful and tolerant residents of ir hakodesh can live side by side and prosper without fear. Unfortunately, there are too many zealots among the Chareidi segment of the population who make life difficult for both the Palestinians and other Yidden. Yerushalyhim should be a place where residents of all faiths and hashkafah should live in peace.
And once again the Jewish nation is saved by the haredim! Let’s see who’s big enough to see that…
