Yosef Gutnick, who at the time led the campaign in favor of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu: “Netanyahu is good for the Jews,” supports Ayelet Shaked as the successor to the prime minister, according to an interview granted to Jerusalem Post reporter Gil Hoffman.
In the interview, Gutnick says that in recent years he has been in contact with Ayelet Shaked, and that he will raise resources towards securing her victory. He said he chose Shaked as Netanyahu’s successor because of her right-wing views, her leadership ability, her ability to unite Israelis, and what he called “a secular society that respects religion.”
Gutnick advised the justice minister that it was time to leave the Bayit Yehudi party and join the Likud, and he did so in a letter the week in which he wrote: It’s time to make the change.
According to Gutnick after the Netanyahu era, she should lead the Likud.
Gutnick, an Australian entrepreneur and Chabad chossid was close to Netanyahu during his first term, spending millions of dollars in the 1990s campaigning for him against the Labor party, acting as a shaliach of the Rebbe ZT”L to ensure the Likud victory in national elections.
