Rebitzen Ettel Platinsky (פלטינסקי), a daughter of the Tzaddik of Yerushalayim, Rav Aryeh Levine ZT”L, was niftar in Shaare Zedek Hospital during the night of 4 Menachem Av (Sunday to Monday), at the age of 97.
She was taken to the hospital during the night and was niftar a few hours later, with family members around her.
The nifteres was also sister-in-law to posek hador Maran HaGaon HaRav Yosef Sholom Elyashiv ZT”L.
The levaya began at 4:30PM at Shamgar Funeral Home in Jerusalem with kvura in the ‘Nevi’im’ area of Har HaZeisim.

Her surname was Platzhinsky. Her husband was the well-known Gaon HaRav Leizer Platzhinsky zl
True she was the sister in law of the Gadol HaDor Rav Elyashiv, however, it may be pertinent to note: She was the wife of the prime disciple of the Chazon Ish and the Brisker Rov, Rav Eliezer Platzinsky zt”l.
In the biography of Rav Meir Soloveitchik (son of the Brisker Rov) the author recounts accompanying Rav Meir to the levayah of Rav Eliezer Platzinsky where Rav Meir concurred with that which someone mentioned to him, how its amazing that 60 years ago people would refer to Rav Elyashiv as the brother in law of Rav Platzinsky but due to his aversion to publicity today many don’t even know who he was (see above article).
Rav Platzinsky was a founding Rosh Yeshiva of the Slabodka Yeshiva in Bnei Brak together with his uncle Rav Issac Sher. The Chazon Ish would send his best talmidim to learn by him saying,”if you want to become a lamdan you should speak in learning with Rav Platzinsky at least once a week.” Among those who merited to learn by him were the greatest gedolim of our generation including: Rav Platzinsky’s nephew Maran Rav Chaim Kenievsky (who’s shadchan Rav Platzinsky was) Rav Nossan Tzvi Shulman Rosh Yeshivas Slabodka, Rav Berel Pavarsky R”Y Ponevizh, Rav Shlomo Berman R”Y Ponevizh, Rav Nosan Tzvi Finkel R”Y Mir, Rav Arieli (Father of R”Y Mir Rav Asher Arieli) Rav Shmuel Yakov Borstein zt”l R”Y Chevron Geula and Kiryas Melech, Rav Shlomo Elyashiv eldest son of Rav Elyashiv, Rav Dovid Cohen Rosh Yeshivas Chevron, Rav Matisyahu Salomon Mashgiach Lakewood, Rav Moshe Shapiro zt”l, Rav Baruch Mordechai Ezrachi R”Y Ateres Yisroel and his brother Rav Yitzchok Ezrachi Rosh Yeshivas Mir, Rav Chaim Sarna R”Y Chevron Rav Aviezer Piltz Rosh Yeshivas Tifrach Rav Kopshitz, Rav of the city of Beit Shemesh, among many others. Rav Moshe Shapiro at his hesped for Rav Platzinsky commented on how so many gedolim were his talmidim saying, “who did not pass through his hands.”

It is well known that upon the advice of the Chazon Ish the Ponivizher Rov asked Rav Platzinsky to serve as Rosh Yeshiva of Ponevizh the position that eventually was filled by Maran HaRav Shach zt”l.
