Final Drill Held at Ramon International Airport Prior To Opening


The final drill that will certify Ramon Airport as operationally ready, is set to take place tomorrow on Monday, July 16th, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and  2:30 p.m. with a nighttime drill continuing from 7:30 until midnight.

The airport, set to be Israel’s second international airport, together with Ben Gurion airport located in Lod, is named after pilot and astronaut Ilan Ramon and his fighter pilot son Assaf.

Minister of Transportation and Intelligence Yisrael Katz, will attend the drill together with the Ramon family and the head of the Airport Division of the Ministry of Transportation. Ther dignitaries include the head of the Eilot Region Council, where the airport is located, and the Mayor of Eilat, Meir Yitzchak Halevi. Israel’s head of southern command for the Israeli police Commissioner Motti Cohen will also oversee the drill.

The drill will be comprised of a fabricated emergency taking place on a plane in the air. During the drill local residents or travelers will sense a lot of traffic of emergency vehicles. Participating in the exercise will be workers from the Eilat airport, the Israeli police, firefighters, the IDF, Magen David Adom as well as other rescue organizations.
