Will The Peleg Prevent Chareidi Achdus In Jerusalem Mayoral Race?

Jerusalem Councilman Chaim Epstein is the representative of Peleg Yerushalmi, the breakaway litvish party that split from Degel Hatorah. According to the party-affiliated HaPeles newspaper on erev Shabbos, and clarified by Epstein himself on Sunday, the Peleg will only back the candidacy of Yossi Deutsch in the mayoral race if the Peleg is not boycotted (cherem) in the next administration, as has been the case to date. Deutsch is yet to officially announce his candidacy, seeking to ascertain if the chareidi parties will back him.

Speaking with Eli Bitan and Mendy Gruzman of KAN Moreshet, Epstein explained this is the position of Gedolei Yisrael. He showered Deutsch with words of praise, stating there is no doubt that he is qualified for the post. He added, “I am the representative of a tzibur that is boycotted. If they sit with me at the table and tell me from here in, we are all together, and find the funding for the four daily [chareidi] newspapers, [including HaPeles], then there is something to speak about.

Epstein explained he and his tzibur are in cherem by Degel Hatorah as well as Meir Porush, the political patron of Deutsch, and if this is going to be the situation in the future, they cannot back Deutsch in the mayoral race.

Epstein added, “Porush has us in cherem and I have not seen even a single notice published in the daily HaPeles from the Elad Municipality [run by Yisrael Porush], the Ministry of Education [as Meir Porush is the deputy minister of education] or Betar Illit [aligned with the faction]. We don’t give free publicity”.

Epstein concluded, “If they approach me with the desire for achdus and making peace, we have something to speak about”.

  2. chareidi amiti,
stereotypical garbage and fraud, as much as the moniker.Talk perhaps for yourself

Proof:Barkat was offering more funding than Deleon is last election
Who did the Moetzes of Degel say to vote for?

Labour offers perennially more to Degel more than Likud has

  3. Dear it is time for truth: Are you serious: a large kehilla numbering thousands in Yerushalayim who are being refused any recognition at all by another party, they will not advertise (even for the elections) in their paper and will not recognize their existence. This kehilla is ready to support Deitch for Mayor they just expect to be treated as a normal legitimate kehilla it is in the hands of Deitch to do so if he doesn’t do so who’s falt is it? Whos being the Bar Kamtza?
