Terrorist organizations in Gaza declared a cease-fire during the night of motzei Shabbos.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman announced that they would not allow the launching of the flare-ups, and on Sunday morning, 3 Menachem Av, the attacks continued and the fires in the Gaza vicinity raged as a result of balloon bombs and fire kits launched in Gaza towards southern Israel.
The IDF reports that for a first time, an Israeli aircraft fired at a terrorist squad that was carrying balloon bombs on Sunday morning. The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said: “An IDF attack helicopter attacked a squad of terrorists belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization that fired balloon bombs from northern Gaza towards the territory of the State of Israel.”
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh said, “the enemy wants to change the equation, but our resistance stands guard and does not break down. The holy death of the boys will not pass quietly, and the enemy will pay a heavy price.”
It should be noted that three fires have erupted since morning hours of Sunday near the Erez Crossing. Eshkol Regional Council head Gadi Yarkoni said this morning that “the ceasefire agreement that has been reached is being tested today and in the coming days, and the ceasefire must include an immediate cessation of the terror of arson ballooning and burning of our fields and disrupting our daily lives.”
“We will not tolerate the reality of terror of any kind – neither shooting at our settlements nor igniting our territory, as no other place in the country would tolerate, we rely on the IDF. We back its actions to ensure the security of the residents and expect policy makers to ensure quiet and immediate and long-term security,” added Yarkoni.
Sderot Mayor Alon Davidi said: “Our feelings regarding the ceasefire are very difficult, and whoever decides to open fire and ceasefire is Hamas, not the State of Israel, and I call upon the prime minister and the cabinet ministers to be with the residents and go down to the south and hear their hearts’ regarding the most difficult weekend that has been here since the Operation Protective Edge.”
