Israel: Hospital Patient Steals Tens of Thousands From Fellow Patient

A letter of indictment was issued by Israeli police on Tuesday, following an intense investigation, in which it is suspected that a 54-year-old Tel Aviv man defrauded a fellow patient’s credit card by tens of thousands of Shekels.

The investigation began after a complaint was registered with the police that a patient in Assaf Harofeh hospital had stolen his fellow patient’s credit card last month and charged tens of thousands of shekels to the card as well as withdrew even more money without the elderly man’s knowledge.

The investigation revealed that the suspect intentionally became friendly with the victim in order to steal his wallet. Following this the suspect withdrew large sums of money on a continuing basis.

The suspect is accused of performing 21 withdrawals that total up to 35,724 NIS as well as attempting another 63 withdrawals that failed.

The suspect is currently in custody in Rishon LeZion.
