IDF Lieutenant General Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkott as well as other top level IDF officials toured the northern branch of the IDF that oversees operation on the Golan Heights that goes by the name of Otzevet HaBashan. During the visit, Eizenkott evaluated the readiness of the forces on the North-Eastern front of Israel’s territory that borders Syria, and received a detailed account of the preparations that the IDF has made should combat with Syria, or rebel fighters from the area be necessary. The account was given by the Northern Front Commander Major General Yoel Strick and Brigadier General Amit Fischer.
The IDF spokesperson’s office related that: “The IDF is closely monitoring all of the actions being taken in Syria by all sides in the conflict and has trained and prepared for a wide variety of scenarios in order to safeguard the security of Israel’s citizens and maintain the status quo along the border. The IDF will continue to provide humanitarian aid to the local residents on the Syrian side of the border without taking sides in an order to prevent refugees from attempting to cross the border into Israel.”
