A Jewish youth leader affiliated with the Reform Movement has been ousted from her position as leader of an Israel summer program after she recited Kaddish for a slain terrorist, who was killed by IDF forces in Gaza border clashes in May.
Making matters worse, Israel proved that 50 of the 62 Gazans killed were Hamas-affiliated terrorists and not innocent civilians or lone operatives as reported at the time.
According to the report in the British Jewish News newspaper, Nina Morris-Evans was removed from her position as a leader in the RSY-Netzer youth movement, which heads an annual summer group to Israel.
The news report quotes a joint statement from the Reform-affiliated RSY-Netzer and UJIA: “Over the course of extensive dialogue with an Israel tour leader, unfortunately it has become clear to RSY-Netzer, Reform Judaism and UJIA, that we cannot arrive at a position of certainty that her leading a tour is in the best interests of the participants.
As it is a personnel issue, all three organisations have a duty of care and we cannot therefore not discuss the details of this process any further.”
Morris-Evans condemned the use of live gunfire by the IDF, unwilling to accept the integrity of reports from the IDF Spokesman Unit that soldiers acted in self defense as the terrorists worked to attack them and/or compromise the Israel/Gaza border. She also stated she does not condone terror, quoted saying, “Who these people were – or which group they are affiliated to – is an insignificant issue compared to the reality of their murder.”
She later expressed remorse over the use of the word “murder”.
