(PHOTOS IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

The Jerusalem Municipality and the district police on Tuesday, 20 Tammuz, completed a combined enforcement operation in eastern Jerusalem neighborhoods

As part of the combined operation, the district police and city employees carried out enforcement actions to protect the public space, alongside policing activities and maintaining law and public order

The operation included municipal and district police inspectors who evacuated many public areas, such as an illegal encampment near the village of Batir, a pirate car wash, parking lots blocking public access to parking, illegal sheds for businesses and house parking, illegal containers that served as offices, and illegal warehouses and work areas. In addition, municipal inspectors removed graffiti from over 80 locations and evacuated about 10 abandoned vehicles, peddlers’ wagons and other installations from businesses in the public areas.

As part of the operation, the Neighborhood Improvement Unit of the city and sanitation department carried out extensive cleaning and restoration of the evacuated sites, and the owners of the evacuated facilities received notices of evacuation and cleaning of the areas they had taken over.

The combined operation was led and initiated by the Enforcement and Policing Department of the Jerusalem Municipality and the Kedem District of the Jerusalem Police, accompanied by the Legal Department, with the participation of municipal maintenance teams, Operations Administration employees, district police officers and collection officials, and veterinary services.

The municipality notes that the joint activity with the police is aimed at evacuating the public space from the takeover of private and commercial bodies, which act in a way that harms law-abiding residents and endangers the passers-by on the way.
