Gaza-based terrorists continue sending booby-trapped balloons and fire kites over the border into southern Israel. This new form of low-tech warfare is claiming a significant price in damage to agricultural settlements in Gaza border communities. Hundreds of dunams of fields have been damaged already as a result of the attacks.

On Sunday 18 Tammuz alone, there were 20 fires reported in communities along the Gaza border, in the Eshkol Regional Council. The army worked is maintaining a significant presence, including reservists called to service to standby to combat fires caused by the kites and balloon bombs.

According to officials, dozens of these balloons and kites were sent over the fence on Sunday along, in what has become a daily occurrence. Military personnel continue working with civilian forces, including JNF and local firefighters, to extinguish the fires in the area.

B’chasdei Hashem, despite the significant damage caused to fields, there were no injuries reported in the fires that resulted from the attacks on Sunday.
