The new draft law, which is opposed by the chareidi parties, was passed by the cabinet on Sunday, 18 Tammuz, and scheduled for its first vote in Knesset on Monday.

Leading Sephardi rabbonim have called for a tefilla gathering at 8:30PM on Monday, at the kever of Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L.

Sephardi rabbonim are particularly opposed to the draft law, as they feel the Sephardi bochrim will be used to fill the draft quotas as they insist has been the case in the past. Sephardi rabbonim are divided on the tefilla event, with some removing their names from the proclamation calling for participation.
