Yachad party leader Eli Yishai joins the critics following the report the Eida Chareidis had Ethiopian Barkan Winery employees reassigned from halachicaly sensitive positions since as the Eida explains, “their Jewishness is a subject of dispute among some”. Yishai explains that Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L regarded them as Jews.
Yishai used his Facebook page to get his message out, citing how Maran Rav Ovadia called for bringing Ethiopian Jews to Israel during his, Yishai’s tenure as Minister of the Interior.
“I remember Maran how he worked to bring the Ethiopian Jews to Israel and his Psak Halacha that they are Jews for all intents and purposes,” Yishai said, and told a story in which Maran was anxious about signing the certificates approving the Ethiopian shochtim.

Newsflash: While Maran Harav Ovadia Zatzal had his psak, there were many Gedolim that ruled that the since ethiopian Jews come from questionable ancestry, they should undergo giyur lechumra.
All the Badatz is saying is, we want to be makpid like those shitos.
Why doesn’t Eli Yishai understand that אלו ואלו דברי אלוקים חיים, and they are being makpid like the other shitos?
As YWN noted in a previous article, the employees didn’t suffer any monetary loss from the reassignment.
Rav Moshe Feinstein also said that we must save the Ethiopian Jews from danger and be mekarev them. But he also ruled that they must undergo geirus. Is the Eidah Chareidis obligated to accept only rulings of Rav Ovadiah Yosef and to reject those of Rav Moshe?
obviously there are opinions against those of maran, and in kashrut many are following the machmerim….
