On Monday, Israel’s Minister of Defense Avigdor Lieberman sent a warning to the Hamas terror organization that it would no longer allow terrorists from the Hamas controlled Gaza strip send incendiary devices into Israeli territory. The statement came following a night of IDF airstrikes in Gaza that came in response to the continuous attacks of kite bombs and balloon fire bombs that have caused hundreds of acres of land in Israel to be burnt and hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage.
Hundreds of brush fires have been caused in recent months since the attacks began and the Israeli Defense establishment is now cracking down on perpetrators and on Hamas as a whole.
“If anyone thinks it will be possible to continue with the daily kites and fires, they are wrong,” Lieberman said. The comments came while the Defense Minister was touring Israel Aerospace Industries.
Hours after the airstrikes, Palestinians from the Strip fired three rockets at southern Israel. These were the first rockets fired at Israel since the flare-up of rocket fire that occurred towards the end of May. Since then, a shaky ceasefire from rockets, albeit not firebombs, has held. An IDF Spokesperson said that two of the rockets fell in Israeli territory while the third appeared to fall inside the Gaza Strip. There were no reports of injuries on either side.
“The attack was carried out in response to the launching of incendiary and explosive kites and balloons at Israeli territory. This is a terrorist activity that endangers the lives of southern residents and has damaged large amounts of land,” the IDF Spokesperson said.
