A large tzibur turned out on Wednesday night for the levaya of HaRav Shimon Edelstein Z”L, a prominent avreich in the Ponevezh Kollel, and a son of the Rosh Yeshiva, HaGaon HaRav Gershon Edelstein Shlita. The levaya began at 9:00PM from his home on Atiya Street in the Ramat Elchanan neighborhood, via the community’s main shul, to the Ponevezh Cemetery.

The niftar was Niftar earlier in the day on Wednesday at the age of 66, after being hospitalized a number of times in recent months due to heart-related problems. Rav Edelstein was released from the hospital earlier in the day following a checkup, but collapsed during the afternoon hours at home and was Niftar at home.

Rav of the neighborhood and a member of the Moetzas Gedolei Hatorah of Degel Hatorah began with the first hesped, followed by Rav Edelstein. Other hespedim were given by prominent rabbonim, including HaGaon HaRav Berel Povarsky, HaGaon HaRav Silman, HaGaon HaRav Berman and Rosh Yeshivas Slobodka HaGaon HaRav Landau. The actual kvura took place close to midnight.
