At the Global Forum of the American Jewish Committee that was held at Binyanei Ha’Umah on Sunday, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu touched upon the atomic question when asked about the upcoming meeting between President Donald Trump and North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-Un. Netanyahu said that dangerous regimes must not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons.
“We must prevent dangerous regimes from having nuclear weapons. We know that in a few days President Trump will meet with Kim Jong-Un. I believe, that just like we are, the entire world is praying for the success of this endeavor. Imagine for a moment that President Trump comes back home with an agreement of some sort and the France, Britain and Germany accepts it and that Japan and South Korea claim that it jeopardizes their existence. Do you think that anyone would listen to them, not really? The same thing happened with the Iranian agreement. That agreement was well received by many in the international community who are not within reach of the Iranian missiles. Israel, Saudi Arabia, and others all said that this agreement will eventually allow Iran to develop an arsenal of nuclear weapons. the first people that they will use them against will be us. Then after that, with the long-range missiles that the agreement does not prevent them from building they will use against everyone else.
The problem that we are facing is this: The reason why we do not have peace, has nothing to do with the lack of a Palestinian country or national home. We have offered that to them many times in the past, and every time we offer it they reject it. According to the Palestinians, the prerequisite to their statehood is the lack of a Jewish state.
Imagine if President Abbas didn’t spend hundreds of millions each year paying salaries to terrorists and murderers who killed innocent civilians in their homes. Imagine what would have happened had he taken these sums and invested them in peaceful pursuits. Imagine had they invested those funds in building Ramallah, or even Gaza. The ramifications of that would have changed the world. The Palestinians would have been able to strive to become doctors and scientists. Instead, thesy set up statues of mass-murderers. That is what they have. Do we see this anywhere else in the world, or in Israel? No.
So it was never a question of giving the Palestinians a state. It was always a question of can there be a Jewish state. They need to recognize the Jewish state and stop paying terrorists and invest instead in peace.”
