United Nations Security Council Fails to Act on Merkaz Massacre

un sc.jpgThe Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today called it “shocking” that the United Nations Security Council could not bring itself to condemn the heinous terrorist attack on Yeshiva students in Yerushalayim.

While many world leaders condemned the killings as an unconscionable act of terror, the U.N. Security Council failed to reach a consensus when it met to consider a statement of its own, with Libya, a non-permanent member, obstructing a unanimous vote.

“It is shocking that the Security Council could not bring itself to condemn this heinous terrorist attack on Israeli teenagers at a Jerusalem yeshiva,” said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director.  “Where are all the calls for U.N. resolutions condemning the murderous acts of terrorism against civilians?  Why should those who seek to thwart the cause of peace not be condemned?

Mr. Foxman stressed, “While it is heartening that many nations expressed support and sympathy with Israel in the aftermath of this horrific attack, formal action by the Security Council would send a powerful message that the Palestinian cause is not served by wanton acts of violence and terrorism, and that such attacks against civilians run counter to the interests of peace.”

  1. What do you expect from the UN its the largest antisemetic organisation in the world.I beleive the US should stop waisting money there

  2. Ahhh who cares. The UN is completely irrelevant in today’s day and age. They accomplish nothing, do not back up their decisons, and just condemn Israel for anything. Why even bother expressing outrage? This is the reality, and let’s deal with it. Who cares what the UN says.

  3. If we believe that we’ll get a fair shake in a non Jewish forum we miss the concept of Eisav Soneh. We never will be liked, and if we complain that there’s always a double standard we haven’t digested that concept. It doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt when we do see such little value placed on Jewish blood.

  4. Duh!
    The ADL is so useless.
This is all they can do is whine on behalf of the Jews.
“Condemnation we don’t need no condemnation…”
Somebody please shut the ADL down and the UN

  5. Anti-semitism exists. Anti-semitism will always exist, at least until Moshiach comes.

However, it does not mean we need to fan the flames of antisemitism by constantly acting shocked, and moaning and groaning about it. I have heard goyim talk about us and saying that we are a bunch of whining people complaining all the time, with the “He called me this, she called me that” routine. I have also heard about how we treat goyishe customers rudely in our stores. That is a chillul Hashem.

We know all about the anti-semitism. It will not change. Whining will not help. What will help a tiny bit, is maybe acting in a manner that brings a kiddush Hashem. Being a mensch in ALL of our endeavors. I don’t know if and how much it would help, but it can’t hurt; can it?

My father, A”H, used to say, “Great and speak to every goy with respect and a smile. First of all because it is the right thing. Second of all, you never know when some other Yid’s future or even life may depend on this one goy’s decision, and his/her memory about how you as an obvious Jew may affect that decision.

  6. The United Nations is united on one thing – to be united against Israel. They were always antisemitic and there is no hope in them at all.

  7. I know I’m not the only one waiting for the UN or their nation members to attack Jerusalem…We all know it’s going to happen soon enough—just take a glance at what our Neviim foretold — check haftorah of succos first day…

Let’s be like R’ Akiva — let’s laugh that Mashiach’s approach is imminent (but at the same time, pray for our people’s safety)

  8. my rosh yeshiva once said the reason for the un is because when moshiach comes all the nations will say we built bridges and tunnels for the yidden etc.. so hashem will show them video of the un and say you all hated the jews!!

  9. my rabbi said that wheb moshiach comes the un will be a place were all the nations of the world will come together and praise hashem

  10. “the Security Council would send a powerful message that the Palestinian cause is not served by wanton acts of violence and terrorism, and that such attacks against civilians run counter to the interests of peace.”

unfortunately this statement is untrue. the Palestinians have gotten all that they have so far as a result of such attacks. this is a fact.

  11. The ADL should be more concerned about torah and mitzvos. Do we really care if the “security” coucil has anything to say about it?! Whenever I drive by the UN, I make sure to spit!

  12. And this statement from the UN website:

Secretary-General condemns deadly shooting at seminary in Jerusalem

    Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
6 March 2008 – Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has strongly condemned today’s shooting at a Jewish rabbinical seminary in west Jerusalem that has left at least eight people dead and many more injured, calling it a “savage attack.”

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mr. Ban deplored the deliberate killing and injuring of civilians and offered his condolences to the families of those killed.

“The Secretary-General is deeply concerned at the potential for continued acts of violence and terrorism to undermine the political process, which he believes must be pursued to achieve a secure and lasting peace for Israelis and Palestinians, based on a two-State solution,” the statement said.

Ambassador Vitaly Churkin of Russia, which currently holds the rotating monthly presidency of the Security Council, has scheduled urgent consultations tonight among the 15-member panel on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question.
