A Palestinian in Chevron attempted to run over a group of soldiers with a vehicle on Shabbos afternoon near the Ma’aras Hamachpela complex. The terrorist was shot and killed on the spot by IDF forces.
According to a report from the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit, no injuries were sustained by members of the IDF or nearby civilians. Palestinian media sites claimed that a Red Crescent ambulance team was sent to the location following the incident but that IDF forces prevented them from approaching the terrorist.
The terrorist was identified as Rami Svarana, a 35-year-old resident of the Beit Omer refugee camp. He attempted to run over and kill an officer and a soldier with a Bobcat construction vehicle.
The IDF spokesperson’s office said that the pair of soldiers performed the proper protocols in warning the assailant to stop and desist from his pursuit and attack. At which point the terrorist turned his tractor around and attempted to ram pedestrians nearby. A soldier located on a rooftop shot the driver, killing him, and eliminated the threat.
However, the terrorist continued driving with the intention to attack nearby civilians. An additional soldier who was positioned on top of the roof of a nearby building identified the threat to the civilians who stood nearby and in response, fired at the terrorist, who was killed
