Minister of Jerusalem Affairs (Likud) Ze’ev Elkin announced on Thursday, 17 Sivan, that he has decided to enter the Jerusalem mayoral race. He explained that he informed Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu of his decision.
Elkin explains how he immigrated to Israel, worked his way to Knesset and then the cabinet, and now, serves as Minister of Jerusalem Affairs. He added he is willing to give up the cabinet post to serve Jerusalem, which has always been his dream. Towards actualizing his candidacy, he has changed his residence and is now a resident of the capital.
It is pointed out that Elkin states he asked PM Netanyahu for backing as the official Likud candidate, but it does not state that the decision was made by Mr. Netanyahu as of yet.
