Interior Minister Aryeh Deri is fuming, as Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has prevented the chareidi community of Tel Tzion from becoming independent. This is a plan that Deri has been working on for a year of so, to permit the chareidi Tel Tzion neighborhood of Kochav Yaakov become its own independent municipality. The community is located in the Binyamin Regional Council of Shomron.
Towards achieving his goal, Deri formed the required committee, and he began moving the plan forward in his capacity as Interior Minister. Being that the community is located in Shomron, he required and received the authorization of the IDF Judge Advocate General, Brigadier-General Sharon Apek, as well as the authorization from Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman and of course, the legal experts in his own ministry.
Deri was hoping the move would appear on the agenda for the next cabinet meeting, on Sunday, 20 Sivan, but he has learned PM Netanyahu has recently requested holding off, with some opining he fears the American reaction. Deri however is quite angry over hearing the vote was removed from the agenda, not clearly understanding Mr. Netanyahu’s reason for the decision.
