WATCH: Israel Border Police Shoot a Suspicious Woman in Pisgat Zeev

Israel Police shot a suspicious woman walking on the light rail tracks in the Pisgat Ze’ev neighborhood in Yerushalayim on Sunday evening.

Police said the woman, from Beit Hanina, appeared fully dressed in puffy black clothes, including covering her face, raising fears she was concealing a weapon.

Civilians and security guards alerted the Border Police officers who were nearby, and the woman was ordered a number of times to stop but did not respond.

Ignoring their cries and continuing to  walk, the soldiers suspicion grew that she was carrying an explosive. At this stage, one of them opened fire, directing shots at her legs.

The suspect was not found to be carrying a weapon. She was evacuated to the hospital in moderate condition.

The circumstances of the incident are being investigated.

  1. What language did the police use to shout “Stop?” When I was in the Civil Guard in Jerusalem we we taught to shout “Stop!” in Hebrew but not in Arabic. Why should someone from a village (or a woman who hasn’t worked in the general sector) know what “Atzor!” means? I used to wonder how I would deal with someone who didn’t know what I was saying, or how I would even know if they didn’t understand.

Yes, a woman could be concealing a weapon under her robe, but are the police sure she knew what they meant?
