MK (Yahadut Hatorah) Yaakov Asher, who served in the past as mayor of Bnei Brak, has responded to rumors, telling the media he does not plan to run for mayor of Jerusalem.
There have been rumors during recent days that Asher would be the Yahadut Hatorah candidate in the Jerusalem mayoral race.
Asher told ‘Ladaat’ “I don’t think that a chareidi candidate can succeed in the election”, emphasizing he does not plan to run in the mayoral race. He feels a chareidi candidate will simply compel the secularists and dati leumi voters to get out and vote, and they will, and “certainly someone will split us since this is why advisors on the chareidi tzibur are paid a salary”.
“The Jerusalem mayoral race demands careful thought and planning. This is very dangerous” Asher added.
