Former IDF Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Brigadier-General Avichai Ronsky Z”L, was niftar after a long battle with cancer. He was 66. The rav was also the Rosh Yeshiva in Itamar, Shomron.
The petira notice released by the Shomron Regional Council states that he spent almost every Shabbos with bereaved families or invited them to him.
Ronsky served as the fifth IDF Chief Rabbi, as well as being a founder of Yishuv Itamar, together with his wife.

הרב רונצקי שירת כרב הצבאי הראשי וכראש הישיבה באיתמר. הוא היה לוחם ותלמיד חכם, שאהב את עם ישראל ואת ארץ ישראל. יהי זכרו ברוך.

In the accompanying video, we see Rav Ronsky reciting a tefilla prior to IDF soldiers entering Gaza during Operation Cast Lead.
He is survived by his wife, six children and their grandchildren.

I don’t understand why they make a big deal out of him! If he indeed helped the IDF it means that he was part of the SCHMAD in Klall Yisroel, by allowing the army draft of Yeshiva students to the IDF of SCHMAD, if so how can one even think respecting him? Let’s Remember that, All of the leading Gedolim say that joining the IDF is prohibited and it’s included in the category of: “ייהרג ואל יעבור” etc.
