The tails of two planes collided on a runway at Ben-Gurion International Airport on Wednesday morning, 12 Nissan.
According to the preliminary investigation, the Germania Airlines Boeing 737 was at fault, backing into the tail of an El Al Jet. The plane was beginning to back out to prepare for takeoff to Berlin.
B’chasdei Hashem no injuries were reported.
The passengers from the El Al flight to Rome were compelled to return to the passenger terminal until another plane was readied.
Ben Gurion Airport Spokesman Ofer Lefler said the tail end of a Germania aircraft destined for Berlin crashed into the tail end of an El Al flight bound for Rome early Wednesday.
He said “heavy damage was caused, mainly to the German plane,” but passengers were “not in any danger,” and were put on alternative flights. He said the rare incident is being investigated.
