Deputy Minister (Shas) Yitzchak Cohen scored a victory over MK (Yahadut Hatorah) Moshe Gafne, Chairman of the Knesset Finance Committee regarding the matter of insurance for avreichim, a matter that has been the subject of machlokes for years.

While Gafne was always opposed, Cohen used any and every opportunity to advance the plan. It is pointed out that Gafne’s objection is in principle only if the funds for the insurance come for the allocations for avreichim that exists, and he would remove his objections if another outside source of funding for the insurance is found.

During the discussions over the state budget the insurance matter was raised, and with the backing of Education Minister (Bayit Yehudi) Naftali Bennet, it was pushed through.
