The Shomrim dispatch center in Bnei Brak received a number of calls for a suspicious person who showed a strange interest in electric bicycle batteries on Tzeitlin Street in the neighborhood.
Volunteers responded, leading to a chase, and the eventual apprehension of the suspect. The suspect is a male in his 30s who had a number of expensive batteries in his possession. He was also found in possession of burglary tools, which police believe he planned to use later in the night. The suspect has a record and police asked to extend his remand.
Bnei Brak Shomrim commander Chaim Roter adds, “There has been a plague of thefts of bicycle batteries in Bnei Brak of late, as well as other accessories used on the electric bikes. As such, volunteers have stepped-up their actions at night”.
