As work progresses on the Tel Aviv light rail, we are given a look at what is taking place underground. The work is divided between two Chinese companies, experts in tunnel digging.
Unlike the train car model seen, the ones that will be coming to serve the line will be far more comfortable, and they are designed with large families in mind, as the train will be running through Bnei Brak and other areas too. Each train holds 500 people.
Because of the traffic realities along portions of the route, a part will be underground, and the tunnels are currently well on their way to completion. The work digging out the tunnels continues around the clock.
One enters a tunnel in Petach Tikvah and emerges in Bnei Brak. At present, the specialized equipment is on its way to another venue to dig another tunnel.
Management on location is unaware of digging on Yom Kippur or Shabbos, despites report to the contrary. Others explain whatever the case, workers are all non-Jews.
