When Chabad Online photographer Mendy Hechtman arrived in Hebron on erev shabbos to take photos of the areas, he did not think the day would play out as it did. He simply wanted to take background photos of the city as he does from time to time but on this erev shabbos, Rosh Chodesh Teves 5773, he encountered an angry Arab mob.
He was in the area of the Avraham Avinu homes when he heard gunfire and rocks began flying from the PA (Palestinian Authority) occupied Casba area. Later he was in front of Beit Hadassah, and opted to go inside for cover while using the good vantage position to observe events as they unfolded.
“Suddenly, one of the Arabs realized I was photographing him and he looked at me and a group of them began throwing rocks in my direction. I could see the hate in their eyes” Mendy explained.
“While I was in the Jewish area, I could feel the danger and I fled the area and I feel my escaping unharmed was a miracle.”
It appears that he was in the area as the Arabs were celebrating the 25th anniversary of the founding of Hamas.

War photography tends to be a dangerous line of work. Perhaps he should consider taking pictures of babies. Challenging in its own way, and the worse that happens is they suddenly start to small bad.
