HaRav Dov Lior sent a letter to the Chief Rabbis of Israel, expressing his unwavering support for them and the state kashrus, calling the kashrus initiative of Tzohar Rabbonim “A knife in the Chief Rabbinate’s heart which is the heart of Yisrael”.
Rav Lior joins the opponents of the Tzohar initiative, citing Rav Kook ZT”L saw fit to establish state kashrus, marriage, and batei din, in part to prevent the Reform and others to get their nails into Yiddishkheit in Israel.
In his letter he writes, “….It is regrettable that those who consider themselves students, and some serve on behalf of the rabbinate, are trying to plunge a sword into the heart of the rabbinate, which is the heart of all of Israel, and to open an opening for Reform on the most sensitive issues.”
Other prominent dati leumi poskim who have spoken out against Tzohar’s kashrus initiative include Rabi Zalman Melamed, Rabbi Chaim Druckman, Rabbi Yaakov Ariel Shalita and Rabbi Tzefanya Drori. Even rabbonim from within Tzohar have stated their objections to the new kashrus initiative.
