Jerusalem district fire department spokesman Udi Gal reports that a fire was extinguished in Yeshiva Eish Hatorah on Sunday, 24 Adar. Three fire teams worked the fire which began spreading from an electric room. As a result of the fire, a security guard who entered the area without proper protection suffered smoke inhalation. He received medical care and his condition was listed as light.
It appears the battery of an electric bicycle exploded, causing the blaze. B’chasdei Hashem the fire was caught before it had a chance to spread.
Fire officials point out this was the second case in Jerusalem alone during the past week that an electric bicycle battery caused a fire. Officials report there were hundreds of cases of fires from such batteries in the past year.
