A residential building in the southern Gilo neighborhood of the capital was evacuated on Sunday night due to a gas leak. In a separate incident, there was a fire caused by a battery of an electric bicycle that exploded in a stairwell.
Four fire trucks responded to a report of a fire on Shachrai Street in Bayit Vegan and found acrid smoke bellowing out of a third story home. A pregnant woman was transported to a Jerusalem hospital with light smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire was attributed to an exploding bicycle battery in a stairwell of the building.
Firefighters also responded to Margalit Street in the southern Gilo neighborhood. The building was evacuated by firefighters and police after a gas leak was detected. Gas levels were high, and it was determined to remove tenants immediately.
There were no injuries in the Gilo gas leak.
