The chairwoman of the Meretz faction in Knesset, MK Zahava Gal-On, announced on Wednesday, 13 Adar, that she is retiring from political life. She has removed her name from the list of contenders to head her party.
Gal-On took a leave of absence last October to assist in preparing the party for primaries and she has now announced her retirement. It is explained it became clear to her that she has zero chance of being reelected as the head of the party.
In her statement, she boasts the party’s membership has grown by 70% to 31,000, and today, it is time for others to fill in as she fought for the values that are near and dear to the party.
She began her career in the 15th Knesset in June of 1999.
