Israel Appoints Its First Female Chareidi Judge, Attorney Chavi Tucker

The Judicial Selection Committee on Thursday, 7 Adar, selected Attorney Chavi Tucker, 41, to serve as the first female chareidi judge, assigning her to the Jerusalem Magistrate Court. The selection committee is headed by Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, who phoned Tucker to congratulate her.

Tucker, the daughter of Rabbi Raphael Wolf, from the legendary home of HaGaon HaRav Shach ZT”L, was born in England and grew up in Bnei Brak as the eldest of 12 brothers and sisters, educated in Beis Yaakov and in chareidi educational institutions.

In her youth, she studied at Wolf Seminary and then at Rabbi Lieberman’s new seminar in Jerusalem, and even then, according to her friends, she excelled in her studies and was known for her sharp head.

She is married to Rav Yechezkel Tucker, also an attorney and rabbinical advocate, and a veteran of the litvish community in French Hill, Jerusalem, the son of Rabbi Nachman Tucker, head of the Hebron Yeshiva.

After completing her law studies and completing her degree, she served as legal advisor to the Justice Ministry Police Investigations Unit, and later served as senior deputy to the Jerusalem District Attorney.

Her children are educated in chareidi institutions and her sons study in a well-known Talmud Torah school in Jerusalem. Now that she is elected, she is expected to serve as a judge in the Magistrate’s Court in Jerusalem.

The committee made a number of additional appointments as well.

  1. Kok hakovod and much hatzlacha to Judge Tucker. Hopefully, she will provide a valuable ne perspective to the judiciary an not have to deal with any stupidity from the fringe elemens of the Chareidi tzibur who often disparage women who should never hold a position of authority over men, who have chosen to pursue an advaned academic degree or simply hve the chutzpah to leave the kitchen. Clearly, she is a needed role model for other chareidi young women and demonstrates that college education and professional achievement are not inconsisten with living a frum lifestyle.. i

  2. Is she “good for the Jews” – will she support abused women, their children & the petition to have that animal Malka Leifer extradited?
