The battle is being waged over chareidi education as MK Yaakov Margi announced he demands the implementation of agreements made with Shas. Margi is referring to demands to cancel all changes implemented regarding chareidi education during the tenure of Education Minister Shai Piron, the previous administration, when Yesh Atid was a member of the collation.
This means completion of the state funding to 75% of funding but treasury officials explain at present, there is no source for additional funding, so the sum is not included in the budget.
As noted, at an early stage of the discussion, MK Margi said that the Education Ministry had nothing to turn to the committee to approve and advance its budget for next year. “There will be nothing of the Education Ministry ahead of the upcoming budget in this committee before the issue of the coalition agreement ends”, he said.
Margi added that he would like to inform the Education Ministry “not to turn to the committee and not to come,” and said that “I will try to be Gafni and see how long it will take me,” indicating he if freezing allocations as Gafne has done as chairman of the Education Committee, until such time the money he is demanding is forthcoming. Margi basically indicated he is shutting everything down until the money promised for chareidi education is allocated.
